Job Description

A growing construction and engineering company in Baltimore County seeks a qualified Bookkeeper

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger entries
  • Perform job costing and track project expenses against budgets
  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements monthly
  • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable
  • Prepare and process invoices, lien releases, and payment applications
  • Track subcontractor payments and ensure proper lien waivers and W-9s are on file
  • Assist with financial reporting and analysis as needed
  • Process weekly or bi-weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees
  • Prepare certified payroll reports for government contracts (Davis-Bacon, prevailing wage, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
  • Maintain accurate employee records, time tracking, and job costing allocations
  • Manage payroll tax filings and coordinate with CPA or external accountant
  • Handle year-end payroll tasks including W-2s and 1099s

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of bookkeeping/accounting experience in the construction industry
  • Proficiency with construction accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage 100 Contractor, Foundation, or similar)
  • Strong understanding of job costing, progress billing, and certified payroll
  • Knowledge of prevailing wage laws and construction compliance requirements
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines
  • Strong Excel and financial reporting skills
